Wood Cockroaches & Termites

Wood Cockroaches are common in South Carolina, active at night from late Spring to early Fall (May to October), and often found in damp woodland areas. They can also be seen in the light of vehicle headlights at dusk.

Wood Cockroaches usually stay outside but may come inside during mating season in May and June. They can be found near doors, windows, woodpiles, basements, garages, and other humid areas. They may also get into gutters and buildings through weep holes.

Wood Cockroaches feed on decaying wood, leaf litter, plant material, other insects, fungi, and mold. When approached, they do not scare and scatter.

Dampwood & Subterranean Termites

Decaying stumps attract termites and other pests due to the moisture and food they provide. Dampwood Termites consume decaying wood and do not present an immediate threat to your home, whereas Subterranean Termites devour a wide range of wood varieties and most certainly pose a risk to your home. Other pests and insects attracted to decaying tree stumps include ants, beetles, and fungi, which can potentially spread to nearby healthy trees or structures.

To help prevent cockroaches and termites, you should always consider removing stumps, branches, and leaf piles from your property.
